The Old Wellingtonian Sailing Association is celebrating its 20th anniversary year

This is a fantastic year for the OWSA, and we have three upcoming events for OWs aged under 35, and OWs of all ages for the racing event, who are interested in sailing or learning more about the OWSA. Whether you’re keen to socialise with like minded sailors, interested in dipping your toe into sailing, experienced or rusty, there is a chance to get involved.

The OW Sailing Association is inviting any OWs under the age of 35, who may be interested in participating in OW sailing, to join them for a social night out in Clapham on Saturday 14^th April, from 8pm. Feel free to bring a friend.

This will be a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t yet been involved in the wide range of sailing events on offer to OWSA members, to socialise with some of the long-standing members of the club and find out more!

The venue turns into a bar and club later for those of us who want to stay on late!

UNDER 25s. Your food bill will be heavily subsidised by OWSA. Please do come along as it should be a cheap and fun night out.

If you fancy getting on the water, why not join the celebration of the 20th anniversary year of OWSA with a day of informal racing? We will be racing in the RTYC’s modified J80s at Queen Mary Reservoir on Sunday 15th April.

‘OWs of all ages, whether OWSA members or not, are very welcome.

There will be a mixture of fleet, team and/or match racing, therapeutic after the U35s Night Out the evening before! The aim of the day is mainly to have some fun on the water, but also to have a bit of practice ahead of the season (there might be a bit of a coaching thrown in). Even though the racing will be informal, I’m sure there will be a competitive edge!

The price of the day will be £60. The event will be free of charge for those of you under 25.

Last but by no means least, in this 20th anniversary year, the OWSA has chartered a yacht for the May rally, specifically for those aged under 35. The rally is always huge fun, and you are warmly invited to join in.

2018 OWSA Solent Rally  4th – 6th May 2018: Cowes and Itchenor

The yacht will be skippered by Ed Vigors (S 00-06), and we hope to see as many younger OWSA members and OWs under 35 as possible on what is always a very enjoyable weekend. In order to keep costs down for younger members the charter cost will be met with the help of a very generous grant from College.

Outline of the weekend programme:

Friday 4th May

• Collect yacht in Hamble.
• Sail to Cowes.
• Cocktail party at RYS Haven marina.
• Dinner at the Royal Yacht Squadron.

 

Saturday 5th May

• Breakfast at the Royal London Yacht Club in Cowes.
• Sail to Itchenor in Chichester Harbour.
• Drinks on the pontoon.
• Dinner at Itchenor Sailing Club.

 

Sunday 6th May

• A free day, sail back to Hamble.

 

Costs.

No charge for charter of the yacht (all ages).

For those aged 25-35, cost per head £95.00 to include all dinners (with some wine) and RLYC breakfast.

For the first 4 U25s to sign up, cost per head £45.00 to include all dinners (with some wine) and RLYC breakfast.

Additional wine, individual bar bills etc and lunches are not included.
