Excellence & Access
The Prince Albert Foundation (PAF) is now in its second decade. It was set up to bring talented, determined young people from disadvantaged backgrounds into the heart of Wellington life.
The impact has been transformative – for the young people themselves and for the College as a whole. They bring fresh perspectives, ambition and humility. Their presence strengthens our culture and reminds us daily what opportunity looks like in action.
QVF provides financial support based on the individual circumstances of a child and their family. Where the PAF Programme is highly targeted – focusing on widening access for young people from specific disadvantaged communities – QVF takes a broader, individual approach, with means-tested awards typically ranging from 10% to 100% of fees; the average award is around 50%.
QVF can help both new pupils who would otherwise be unable to attend Wellington and current families whose financial circumstances change, enabling a child to continue their education at the College.
Funded by philanthropy, this five-year programme offers mentoring, academic enrichment and personal development for students from state schools across Berkshire, Hampshire and Wales.
During the year students take part in a range of sessions, including a visit to Reading University, and to the Guy’s campus of King’s College London. They enjoy real tennis, mountain biking, raft-building and shooting, and lessons in philosophy, politics and Mandarin as well as core subjects, revision skills and careers advice.
