The coronation of King Charles III is a significant historical event. Looking through the Wellington archives, we have found a wonderful piece in the 1911 Yearbook about the coronation of King George V. It records the events which were held around the coronation, and most significantly, recounts the planting of an oak tree by Lord Redesdale, one of the school’s Governors, to the west end of North Front where ‘three cross roads meet’ and which now acts as a small roundabout. It is a very entertaining account which is reproduced in full here.
The College will be planting another tree to mark the coronation of King Charles III, which feels appropriate as he is known to have a huge passion for the environment. More information on this will follow!
