OW Cross Country: Annual Alumni Race Results

26 September 2022

On Saturday 17th September, OWXC took part in the Annual Alumni Race on Wimbledon Common, an 8k undulating cross-country course. For the first time the race had been brought forward from its traditional December date, so we had to cope without the customary mud, rain and freezing cold!

Of the 33 teams and 147 runners taking part (including most of the top public schools), OWXC again fielded the largest team with our 17 runners, despite five last minute drop outs or no shows. In the overall competition for the King Henry VIII Trophy, our top 4 (Simon Martin 31st, Ed Dymoke 32nd, Roland Hunter 45th and Mark Merritt 48th) came 6th out of the 33 teams.

Congratulations again to our ladies (Lauren Woods, Emma Thwaites and Natalie Blagg) on retaining the Old Johnian Cup, as the best of the 6 schools with female runners.

Roland Hunter, Adam Badrawy and Ross Maclagan helped us to take 3rd place in the Old Brentwood Trophy for the over-40s (3 to qualify per team).

My grateful thanks to all who, despite serious traffic congestion, made the journey to Wimbledon (Roland Hunter drove up from Devon!), with the hope that we’ll all be back next year – along with many of our current members who couldn’t make it this year, plus the addition of new members.

Any OW interested in running and who would like to join OWXC should contact Gary Lloyd (galloyd2000@hotmail.com or 07880 707120). The revitalised club website should be up and running again soon.
