On Saturday 11th December, OWXC took part in the Annual Alumni Race on Wimbledon Common, an 8k hilly and very muddy course. Of the 37 teams taking part (including most of the top public schools), OWXC fielded the largest team with our 22 runners.
Huge congratulations to our 4 ladies (Katie Edgerley, Natalie Blagg, Lauren Woods and Camilla Chichester) on winning the Old Johnian Cup, as the best of the 10 schools with female runners.
In the overall competition for the King Henry VIII Trophy, our top 4 (Barnaby Walker 27th, Simon Martin 48th, Will Campbell-Barnard 56th, and Hugh Chichester 64th) came 9th out of the 37 teams.
Our over-40s (Will C-B, Roland Hunter, Dougall Monk) also ran especially well to take 3rd place in the Old Brentwood Trophy out of 30 teams (3 to qualify per team).
My grateful thanks to all who survived the necessary covid checks, the mud and the journey to Wimbledon (Roland Hunter drove up from Devon!), with the hope that we’ll all be back next year – along with many of our current members who couldn’t make it this year, plus the addition of new members.
Any OW interested in running and who would like to join OWXC should contact Gary Lloyd (galloyd2000@hotmail.com or 07880 707120). Unfortunately, the club website is currently out of action.
