Empower Her Voice: Mothers in the Arts

20 February 2018

OW India Ayles (O 13) is organising an event entitled ‘Empower Her Voice: Mothers in the Arts’.

The event is taking place at the Royal College of Art on the 26th April 2018.

Empower Her Voice is an organisation which aims to promote education and create discussion amongst women around the world. They focus on two areas: organising talks and events in the UK and supporting girls education in Pakistan by funding scholarship schemes, providing physical resources, and organising extra-curricular activities.

For their London launch, they’ve invited high profile speakers who have led successful careers in the arts to talk about their experiences of motherhood and working life. The talk aims to raise money to fund scholarships for girls to attend the Sanjan Nagar school based in Lahore in Pakistan which is part of the Sanjan Nagar Public Education Trust, a UK registered charity. One scholarship costing £3,500 funds the entirety of a girl’s schooling. They also hope to create an inclusive and positive space for the audience to exchange ideas and network.

The panel consists of Fiammetta Rocco (Economist Arts and Books), Elif Shafak (author), Margy Kinmonth (film and television director), Joanna Kirk (artist) and Alice Murphy (academic). Chairing the discussion will be curator Tamar Clarke-Brown.
