In April 2026, Angus Neale (Bn 18) will be running the Marathon des Sables in memory of his friend and fellow OW, Haydn Robarts (Bn 18). It is a self-supported, 250km race which takes place over seven days in the Moroccan Sahara. Crossing desert dunes in ferocious heat, it has been dubbed the toughest footrace on earth.

Haydn Robarts (Bn 18)
On his motivations for running, Angus says: “I had the privilege of spending Sixth Form with Haydn at Wellington. He was a wonderful friend and a kind, selfless individual. He always recognised that we have more to gain from looking after one another and not just ourselves.
Haydn was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2019. He was immensely brave throughout his cancer treatment, making peace with an experience that no young person should ever suffer. Instead of asking “why me?”, he confronted the disease, asking “why not me?” He passed away a week before his 20th birthday.
It’s a horrific diagnosis that thousands of teenagers face every year, and there are few worthier causes than the Teenage Cancer Trust, which I am proud to be running for. I am sure he would agree.”
With one week to go till the race, Angus is in the last part of his training and preparation, and on behalf of the Wellington Community, we wish him the best of luck!
