“Being on the foundation myself, I feel as though I have had a genuine insight into the overwhelming amount of opportunities Wellington provided me with.”

Our OW callers have been asked a few questions about their time at Wellington and why they decided to be involved in celebrating OW giving this coming April.

Venice McErlain (Ap 23) is currently studying French and Politics as an undergraduate at the University of Bristol. Alongside her studies she plays hockey for the University throughout the week. For fun she also does Scottish Reeling Society and French and Politics Society!

Qu. 1 What is your favourite memory from Wellington?

“As I am sure lots of people say, it is a tricky question to answer because I have a lot of favourite memories at Wellington. It is however, impossible not to mention my last House Singing Competition. I remember my very first House Singing Event at Wellington being blown away by how incredible every House was, especially considering the songs are wholly performed and organised by the students themselves. When you’re standing on stage for the last time singing at the top of your lungs with everyone that you have spent the last five years with, you feel on top of the world! “

Qu. 2 Why did you want to be a part of the campaign? What made you want to get involved?

Being on The Foundation myself, I feel as though I have had a genuine insight into the overwhelming amount of opportunities Wellington provided me with. I will therefore always have a strong connection to Wellington and will always do my best to remain strongly involved in the Wellington Community. Furthermore, I think that there would be no greater pride than knowing that I had helped or contributed in some way to helping another student in a vulnerable situation such as mine, to gain the opportunities that I did.

On another note, I really enjoy meeting new people. I think it will be so interesting to hear anecdotes of Wellington several years ago and the stories of other people who experienced the same things that I did!

Qu. 3 Can you tell us a ‘Fun Fact’ about yourself!

“Whilst I was at Wellington I joined the Film Society. I initially joined to support one or two of my friends who were leading the society, however, by the time I left Wellington I’d created two short films in the role of producer and assistant director! “
