Christopher Cameron (O 97)

Chartered Engineer
“Head of Capability and Development (Cyber & Security Division)”

I spent the first part of my career in the Army, commissioning into The Queen’s Royal Hussars in the Summer of 2003. Over the next twenty years I served in a variety of combat, technical and staff appointments, completing operational tours of Iraq, Afghanistan and Ukraine. I left the Army in the Summer of 2023, joining Leonardo UK’s Cyber and Security Solutions Division as Head of Capability Development. I work across several of our business areas, principally supporting our Electronics Division as the Chief Information Security Officer of the Global Combat Air Programme, but also in programmes dealing with cyber resilience, data analytics and information technology. I achieved Chartered Engineer status in 2015 and was elected Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology in 2023.

Top Tips.

1.        Have a plan. Decide what you want to achieve and focus on building the required experience and qualifications to get there.

2.        Develop your soft skills. In a STEM environment the ability to explain complexity in simple terms, and be compelling in debate, will set you apart from your peers.

3.        Foster creativity outside your profession. Maintaining an interest in non-technical subjects, such as art or literature, will give you breadth and make you a more rounded employee.
